The Safer Ageing Project offers dedicated support to older people (aged 55+) who are experiencing domestic abuse — including abuse from partners, adult children or relatives.

Older victims often face unique and complex barriers to seeking help, such as:

  • Social isolation or loneliness
  • Long-term health conditions or mobility challenges
  • Dependency on family or carers
  • Financial control or lack of access to income
  • Fear of not being believed or losing independence

Our service ensures that age is never a barrier to accessing safety, support or justice.

How we support you

Our specialist Safer Ageing Domestic Abuse Advisor (SADAA) provides tailored, one-to-one support to individuals aged 55 and above who live or work in Trafford.

Working in a compassionate, trauma-informed way, the Advisor helps each person:

  • Understand and recognise abusive behaviours, even when the abuse may have been normalised over time
  • Create safety plans that are adapted to health, mobility or care needs
  • Navigate housing, health, care, and financial concerns, including access to Adult Social Care services or safeguarding referrals
  • Explore civil and criminal justice options, such as non-molestation orders, police reports or legal clinics
  • Receive advocacy and liaison with partner agencies such as GPs, care providers, social workers and housing officers

We work in partnership with other organisations to provide a holistic and coordinated response – because we understand that elder abuse often requires joined-up, multi-agency solutions.

How to access support

You can be referred by a professional (e.g. GP, housing officer, social worker) or you can contact us directly to discuss whether the service is right for you.

You don’t have to go through this alone – our team is here to help you feel safe, supported and heard.
