You may have noticed changes in someone’s behaviour, witnessed controlling dynamics or had the person confide in you directly. Supporting someone who is experiencing domestic abuse can feel emotionally draining and confusing – but your support is incredibly powerful.

How you can help:

  • Listen without judgment — let them speak in their own time.
  • Believe them — validation is crucial.
  • Avoid blame — abuse is never the victim’s fault.
  • Support their decisions — leaving may take time, and safety planning is complex.
  • Know your limits — encourage them to speak to professionals like TDAS.

Even if they aren’t ready to act now, they will remember that you were there for them.

If you think you are experiencing domestic abuse, contact us for support and talk to a domestic abuse advisor at TDAS.
